Product Description

Firstly, I would like to thank Mr Ronian Siew for the interesting and engaging course that he has planned for me and my fellow school mates. The course certainly made learning about lenses fun and enjoyable. Below are some takeaways and reflections after attending this course.

This course has enabled me to see the power of innovation. It is innovation that has transformed the lifestyles of humans and brought us numerous conveniences. We have to keep innovating to continuously better our lives.During the course, Mr Siew mentioned that innovation should be about service to the community and not about money. I fully agree with Mr Siew's statement. Innovating to do good to the society will enable innovators to invent products that will truely solve the problems that the community faces. If money were to be the motivation for innovation, the process of bettering our lives will be slow. This is because only the innovators will gain substantial benefits.

I have also realised the importance of the knowledge learnt in class. As mentioned above, the innovative spirit is key for the improvement of our lives. However, innovation requires knowledge to fuel it.This is where the concepts learnt in class can be put into good use.The application of these knowledge are endless and can potentially lead to an invention that can yield positive results or add more conveniences to our lives. In today's course, I had to use my knowledge of lens and optics to try to make a suitable dental imaging device out of my handphone camera and several other lenses. If I were to have zero knowledge on lenses, completing the task would not be possible. Hence, knowledge learnt in class is extremely important.

Lastly, I have learnt that in innovation, the sky is the limit.Today's task was one that no one else on earth has done.Even Mr Ronian Siew did not have an "answer" to it. The fact that all groups attending the course managed to come up with their own respective solutions just goes to show that nothing is impossible.

Overall, the course was extremely enriching and I hope that there will be more opportunities for me to interact and learn from Mr Siew in the future. Mr Siew's innovative spirit is definitely worth emulating.

Our design is basically a tube with a lens attached at each side. On the end of the tube further away from the camera lens, a converging lens is attached.A diverging lens is attached to the end of the tube closer to the phone. The tube is made up of a smaller tube and a larger tube, with the smaller one within the larger one. This enables the whole system to be retractable. Being retractable enables users to adjust the distance between both lenses to obtain a clear picture on their phones. Also, having a retractable system enables this device to be attached to all kinds of phone cameras as the user can manually adjust focus an image.

An optic fibre can be attached to the flash of the phone to direct light into the mouth so that an image can be taken of the teeth even in the dark.
